An efficient and reliable boiler is at the heart of most modern homes in Medway.

A boiler works tirelessly to provide heating and hot water, year in and year out. But when it fails or becomes unreliable and inefficient, the thought of replacing it can seem daunting. However, it needn’t be. With some basic planning, it can be a smooth and stress-free process. Below is a complete guide to a new boiler installation.

Assess your heating & hot water needs🚿

The first step in this process is to calculate your heating and hot water requirements. The size of your home, the number of occupants and your hot water demands all need to be taken into account. Understanding these factors will help you choose the appropriate boiler for your property.

Research & choose the right boiler🔎

There are numerous boiler manufacturers, who make umpteen different boilers. Choosing the correct boiler is crucial to finding the right one for you. Things like efficiency rating, manufacturer reputation, boiler size and of course cost should all be taken into account. Talking to a local, qualified heating professional can be invaluable in making an informed decision.

Find a reputable local installer✅

Choosing a reliable and experienced local boiler installer is key to a successful installation.

Get recommendations from family, friends or neighbours, and check online reviews. Confirm that your chosen installer is Gas Safe registered, and has liability insurance. A professional installer will ensure that your new boiler is installed safely, and is compliant with all relevant regulations.

Get at least 2 quotes💷

To ensure a competitive price and avoid any nasty surprises, we recommend you get at least two quotes from local installers. Compare the costs, warranty offerings, and included services. Keep in mind that the lowest price may not always guarantee the best quality, so consider the reputation and experience of the installer alongside the pricing.

Arrange a site survey📋

Once you’ve chosen your installer, they will arrange a site survey.  They can then discuss your requirements, and advise you on the best options for your particular needs. They will also be able to determine if any additional work is needed, to ensure a smooth, stress-free installation.

Prepare for the installation✅

Prior to the installation day, it's a good idea to prepare for the work to be carried out. Try to clear the area around the boiler, and remove any fragile or valuable items nearby to prevent potential damage. Make sure the installer has easy access to things like your gas meter etc.

The installation day🗓️

On the day the work is carried out, the engineer will arrive, bright and early, with your new boiler and all the necessary tools and equipment. Your heating system will be drained and the old boiler removed. A system flush will be carried out. The type of flush will depend on the condition of your system. Once this is completed, depending on the package chosen, your new boiler, flue, magnetic filter and system controls will be fitted. A chemical corrosion inhibitor will then be added and the system will be filled up and tested for soundness.
The boiler and system will be run and commissioned as per the manufacturer's instructions.

The engineer will then explain the operation of the boiler and controls, and then complete all necessary paperwork, including the local authority building compliance certificate and the manufacturer's warranty.

Regular servicing & maintenance📅

To keep your new boiler running smoothly and efficiently, annual servicing is essential. Not least, because it is a requirement of all boiler manufacturers to keep the warranty valid. Always keep a record of all service visits. Ask your installer to send an annual service reminder, to ensure it is not missed, if they offer this service.

Regular servicing will not only help prolong the life of your new boiler but will make sure it is running as efficiently as possible, and reduce the risk of breakdowns.
